About Us

Transforming one of Ngatea’s oldest buildings at 10 Orchard West Rd has been a labor of love. With a rich history as a council office, sewing factory, and classroom, we envisioned The Public Office as a gathering spot where locals could connect over delectable food and refreshing drinks.

Against the odds, we’re proud to unveil The Public Office amid the challenges of today’s hospitality landscape. This project has been a testament to community support and dedication from both Simon and myself, along with our incredible neighbors who’ve lent a helping hand along the way.

At The Public Office, Simon’s culinary philosophy shines through in every dish – honest, wholesome fare executed with precision. We take pride in championing local ingredients, ensuring our menu remains fresh, seasonal, and, above all, delicious.

We got really warm and friendly responses to our queries and ended up ordering 2 plates to share. The service was excellent and pleasantly surprise that the food was great. The coffee was super nice - flavorsome and tasty with smooth coffee texture.

Amazingly friendly staff and the food is to die for! For a small town I was totally blown away at the standard of the meals on offer. I had the Benny's with pork belly which was delicious. The eggs perfectly cooked, pork was amazingly tender.

We were passing through Ngatea from Tauranga to Auckland and thought we would spend our Valentines dinner here. Right from arrival we felt very welcome and at home, the meal selection was outstanding (such a hard decision as everything sounded amazing), my husband and I both loved out meals! The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The atmosphere was great. We are both already looking forward to our next visit to The Public Office. Only wish we had discovered it sooner.
